FAQ

Questions worth asking

Including the sceptical ones.

Do I have to connect a bank account?

No. Download a CSV from your card issuer and drop it in — you get the full product, and the file never leaves your browser. Connecting an account just saves you doing that each month.

How do you make money, and does it bias the recommendations?

We may earn a commission when someone opens a card through certain links. It does not affect rankings, and that isn't a promise — it's how the code is built. The ranking engine and the affiliate data are separate files, and the ranking function has no access to the second one. Any card that pays us is marked wherever it appears. Full disclosure here.

Is this actually accurate, or is it guessing?

The card data is researched with sources and verified dates, and the engine is covered by automated tests that check specific real-world cases — the Amex Gold's $25,000 grocery cap, Freedom Flex's quarterly cap, foreign transaction fees outweighing rewards. Where the source data is ambiguous, it deliberately errs low. The methodology is written up in detail.

Why is your estimate lower than other sites?

Usually because those sites count things we don't: spend-gated credits you'd never qualify for, best-case point valuations, and rotating-category bonuses assumed to always be active. We exclude all three.

What are "point values" and why do they change every number?

A point isn't a dollar. An Amex point might be worth 1.1¢ to you and 2¢ to someone who books international business class. Every dollar figure on the site scales off these numbers, so they're editable in Settings. The defaults are mid-range rather than aspirational.

Will using this hurt my credit score?

Using the tool has no effect at all — there's no credit pull. Acting on it might: opening a new card creates a hard inquiry and lowers your average account age, typically a small, temporary dip. The app estimates that cost so you can weigh it against the benefit.

I carry a balance. Is this useful to me?

Less than paying it down. At 25% APR, interest costs about 2% per month — more than any card earns. The app calculates your interest cost and says plainly when clearing the balance beats optimizing rewards. That's usually the honest answer.

Do you support business cards?

Yes — 56 of the 224 cards are business products. There's a Personal / Business / All filter in the wallet.

How current is the card data?

Each card carries its own verified date. Card terms change frequently — issuers adjust fees and categories with little notice — so treat the data as a well-researched starting point and confirm anything before you act on it.

What happens to my data if I stop using it?

Disconnect an account and the token is deleted from storage and revoked at Plaid in the same step. CSV data was only ever in your browser, so closing the tab is enough.
